I Am Indeed a Writer

1.What’s your favourite genre of writing? I started life as a kid loving Laura Ingalls Wilder, Island of the Blue Dolphins, and  other classics my mother would read to me…not counting Charles Dickens, him I endured, simply because I enjoyed having my mother read to me. But as a teen I discovered science fiction…and, oh, that was awesome. Then fantasy was introduced by my sister and that was the end for me…no more classics. Fantasy touched with sci-fi is what I write because that’s what I love…plain fantasy is great and sometimes dystopian…but mostly just anything magical will do.

2. How often do you get writer’s block? I’m not sure. I have been on perpetual writers block for the most part since last year. Then again that is only in regards to the five novels I have in the works. Short stories still get written when a prompt inspires thought. And poetry gets written from time to time…it had been daily but I’m slacking lately.

3. How do you fix it? I have not yet returned to my novel. I love those characters…and I really should finish their stories. I suppose I will simply fix it by sitting down and writing. How to make myself do that? I don’t know yet.

4. Do you type or write by hand? Type, I have written a few scenes by hand when forced to out of sheer boredom like at a doctor’s office or something equally tedious.

5. Do you save everything you write? Yes, I save all my writes. I have also lost an entire novel once and that was so very sad. I think I recovered most of it but am not sure as I had different parts in different files…that’s another novel I need to return to one day.

6. Do you ever go back to an old idea long after you abandoned it? I have not abandoned any ideas they are simply stored for a day when I can get back to them.

7. Do you have a constructive critic? I did but he’s gone, not dead just vanished off of the website I frequented. But now I belong to three local groups. Not Your Mother’s Writing Group has been most helpful and I have been with them for 4 years now.

8. Did you ever write a novel? I wrote my first two novels in one month Once Again and at the moment the second book is called And Again…it was a single novel  but then I found out they do not like first time books to be as long/thick as your basic fantasy novel, so I cut the story in half. then I wrote the sequel two more books in the next six months. I named it Triumph before I had to split it as well. I wrote one more novel based on one of the side characters and it has the potential to have at least five more novels based on its various storylines. That book is called Chaslain’s Children http://allpoetry.com/story/7904325-Chaslains_Children-by-Mluvsyu

9. What genre would you love to write but haven’t? I have written every genre I have wanted to try. I have done romance, teen romance, mystery, horror…(never completed that novel either) dystopian, steampunk, historical fiction (which I hate to read!) fantasy, science-fiction and any combination  of all of these. Including children’s stories and Dr. Seuss rhymes. Whew!

10. What’s one genre you have never written, and probably never will? Erotica…I am a Sunday School teacher! Nuff said.

11. How many writing projects are you working on right now? Actively? Two.
Incomplete and awaiting-me-to-return stories would include a detective/supernatural story filled with death and evil, coincidentally named – Embracing Evil. A sweet love story with a dark underside that I never got past chapter 4 or so is Sunflower and Mechanics. And, of course, I began a prequel to Once Again  detailing the lives of the princesses but mostly about Arianna and Clay. And another story on the opposite end of Once Again the end of the world scenes beginning with the birth and then marriage of the daughter of Mara my main character in Once Again. So no I will never run out of things to write.

12. Do you write for a living? Do you want to? I do not have to work, my husband has always provided well enough for me. But I do want to publish all of my best works one day.

13. Have you ever written something for a magazine or newspaper? I had one story accepted at 69 flavors of Paranoia http://storywrite.com/story/7980067-The_Eyes_Have_It-by-Mluvsyu I think they have gone out of business. I published my own magazine Intangience, which you can find at intangience.net. And I had one poem accepted elsewhere.

14. Have you ever won an award for your writing? Nope no awards for me. But I do not try very hard at entering.

15. What are your five favourite words? I find this a poorly written question…because it depends on what they are favorite for.. in poems I love yearn and desire – in critiques I like awesome and mmm – is that a word? In concepts I like words relating to light or water.

16. Do you ever write based on your dreams? Yes, a few times, mostly those are in my journals though not turned into stories. Running the Tunnels was inspired from a dream about my son-in-law saying he was going to run the tunnel from Washington to Texas. The story only has two chapters…but if I worked on it it would be an amazing alien invasion survivor story.

17. Do you favour happy endings, sad endings, or cliff-hangers? Happy endings eventually win out. But I like twisted surprise endings too.

18. Have you ever written based on an artwork you’ve seen? For contests, yes I have written to art prompts. But has a piece of art simply made me yearn to write? Mmm  not sure, I cannot remember if I have or not. Usually I write and then go find something to match what I have written.
